Organizing has been a passion of mine for many, many years. It probably started with my mom teaching me to make lists and my dad showing me how satisfying it is to have everything lined up on your desk.
From the ages of six to twenty, I trained in classical ballet and then danced professionally with the San Francisco Ballet Company. As a dancer, there were always things to keep organized: from bobby pins and stage makeup to Band-Aids and tape for my toes. I had to find a place for everything, and I learned that the more organized I was, the more I could focus on my training and not waste time searching for what I needed.
After San Francisco, I moved to New York City where I studied clinical social work and eventually got my Masters. I spent a great deal of time visiting my clients’ homes and worked with chronic hoarders. It was clear to me that an individual’s home was a reflection of their emotional world. The more organized their space was, the more productive they were. I also found this to be true in my own life. In the eight years I lived in the city, space was always limited in my apartments, so it was essential to be organized and minimize the clutter. When my clutter was under control, I was able to have the time and energy to live my life.
Over time, I realized that organizing was one of my favorite things to do, so much so that I actually started to ask my friends if I could help them organize their homes too. They certainly loved me! I also started working at the Container Store to become an expert at organizing solutions and custom closet design. And when I moved back to California, I decided to “do what I love,” and start Clean Slate Organizing.
It is my goal to help you experience the amazing affects of organizing. It has had a profound effect on my life and can have a tremendous impact on yours too. Whatever your needs are, you deserve to start over with a Clean Slate, and I am here to help.
